Transfiguration
The book contains 50 color images from the series “Transfiguration” (2003–2026). In this ongoing series of photographic self-portraits, recurring intimate and acute bodily states are captured in the mirror, with the artist appearing simultaneously as both subject and author of the image. Following the design concept, the photographs receive a special coating that visually emphasizes the reflective character of the portraits. The deliberately compact book format underscores the vulnerability and intimate dimension of the series. The accompanying text by Ruth Horak situates the works within the context of the self-portrait with camera in the mirror and connects art-historical references to representations of suffering with media-reflexive questions concerning apparatus, gaze, and photographic self-observation.
